Cruncher eating

My little granddaughter is at the age to taste new foods. While in LA I gave her a cruncher to eat while I held her. She knew I was a little anxious. Guess she could feel the tension in my arms. She took it in her two little fingers very delicately and took the tiniest little bite while she watched my face. Everything went ok so she took another tiny little bite. So sweet and delicate and concerned about my concerns! She did like the mesquite flavoring.

Cold is coming

This morning it was 49 and today it has only gotten to 66 and it feels really cold! Especially since I just got back from a trip to Baton Rouge to see Margaret, cutest baby in the world. Didn't even have to compete for her attention. She likes me! Watching her play on the floor made me realize how structured we get to be and how we lose some of the clearly random activity which makes us creative.

Great Loss

The world and animal conservation in particular has lost a true friend to crocodiles and other feared animals. The death of the Crocodile Hunter is personally an emotional loss for myself and my son. If only we could turn back time.

Grandmother wars

There are two kinds of grandmother wars, one international and one local. The first is a battle among grannies for who has the cutest, sweetest, most intelligent, etc. grandbaby in the world. The second is the skirmish with the "other" grandmother to see who can get the most love and affection from grandbaby. The first, although global, is not as serious as the second. Local battles have left family scars that have yet to heal.

Bus driver

This morning I saw a school bus make a left turn while I was waiting at the stop sign. The lady had her left hand gripping the window post and her right hand on the wheel. She made the turn with one hand. It could only have been done by a traditionally built woman, in the words of Alexander McCall Smith.

Monday

Lucy caught a rat. Nick saw her walking across the yard with it in her mouth. Since she has become an inside/outside cat she is much happier and less apt to run away when you approach her.

Sugar has got me

Can't seem to stop eating sweets. The sugar has trapped me into its web and the fat is starting to settle on my middle. Today I'll think about throwing out all the sugar stuff and see what happens.
